Be Careful Sitting Down to Paint… You Might Lose a Few Hours
Be careful when you sit paint.
You might look up and realize two hours have disappeared.
Your coffee will be cold.
Your phone untouched.
Your to-do list… forgotten.
And somehow, you won’t even care. It’s so easy to pick up a brush and tune out the rest of your world.
Because there is a quiet kind of magic that happens when brush meets paper.
It’s called - “flow”. It’s that beautiful state where you become fully immersed in what you’re doing. Time bends. The outside wold softens. You’re no longer worrying about what happened yesterday or what’s coming tomorrow. During this time of peace, all of your thoughts are focused on what you’re doing right then. Placing brush to paper, adding color with water, watching what happens as colors immerse.
You’re just here.
With color.
With water.
With breath.
You might even notice your heart beats slow down. Focusing solely on what’s in front of you. It’s a beautiful time! If you’re brand new to painting, let me gently tell you something: You do not have to be “good” at art to experience this SERENITY!
Flow doesn’t require perfection.
Serenity doesn’t require skill.
Peace doesn’t require talent.
It simply requires willingness!
When you’re watching watercolor bloom across paper, waiting to see how the pigment settles, your nervous system begins to settle too. Your shoulders drop, your breathing slows. You’re focused, but not strained. Present, but not pressured.
It’s not about creating a masterpiece.
It’s about creating space.
There’s something incredibly grounding about the rythm of it:
Dip.
Brush.
Blend.
Pause.
In a world that constantly asks us to move faster, produce more, scroll longer… painting invites us to slow down. It asks nothing more th your attention.
And the surprising part? You don’t feel depleted afterward. You feel restored.
That’s because creativity isn’t just an output - it’s nourishment. Engaging in art has been shown to reduce stress hormones and support emotional well-being. It gives your mind a break from problem-solving mode and shifts you into sensing and experiencing.
It’s meditation with color.
It’s therapy without words; therapy with a brush.
It’s serenity you can hold in your hands.
So yes - be careful when you sit down to paint.
You might lose track of time.
You might forget to check your phone.
You might realize that the peace you’ve been searching for doesn’t require a plane ticket or a silent retreat.
It might just require paper.
Water.
Paint.
A Brush.
And Permission.
Even if only for 10, 20, or 30 minutes per day. If you’re anything like me, you may discover that those “lost” hours were never really lost at all. THEY WERE FOUND!
Find your serenity with some paint & paper.
